If you’re looking for an all-natural diaper cream to use every day, Earth Mama Baby Organic Diaper Balm is a great one to try. Instead of being white, thick and heavy (like most diaper creams), this product is silky and lightweight, with aromatic lavender and tea tree oil, among many other natural oils and botanicals. Since it's lacking zinc, it works best for daily maintenance, skin soothing and diaper rash prevention.
This honey-coloured balm melts like butter under your fingers and glides easily across baby’s skin, leaving it supple with a glossy sheen. The light formula isn't goopy or medicinal like many other diaper creams and won’t irritate sensitive skin. Our parent testers liked its thin texture, smooth consistency and calming scent (the tea tree oil stands out in this earthy blend), despite its initial strong smell. They said they felt comfortable using Earth Mama Baby Organic Diaper Balm regularly on their child and loved its worry-free medley of natural ingredients; some even integrated the product into their regular diaper-changing routine.
In our lab, we applied the balm to skin to see if it left skin feeling hydrated and if it formed an effective barrier. Five minutes after the balm was smoothed on, skin felt hydrated (and a bit slick), and after one hour, it was super soft, with a noticeable barrier. Our parent testers felt the product provided an effective barrier between their child’s tushie and diaper.
Our testers had lots of positive things to say about Earth Mama Baby Organic Diaper Balm, and the majority felt it reduced irritation and did a good job of healing their child's diaper rash. But some parents did note that they'd turn to other products (namely, ones with zinc) if their little one had a severe diaper rash.
Overall, our parent testers thought Earth Mama Baby Organic Diaper Balm was easy to use. You can scoop out exactly what you need, so none will go to waste, and residue washes off your hands easily (although you may not want to, as it feels great on dry patches and does a pretty good job of softening cuticles). While the screw-cap lid isn't as ideal for on-the-go diaper changes as a tube with a flip cap, it's simple to keep the container clean and impossible to spill due to the solidified oil consistency.
While this balm is on the higher end of the price range for diaper rash creams, we found that a little bit goes a long way—a dab on your finger covers a wide area of skin. Most of our testers rated the value good or very good, and all said they would purchase Earth Mama Baby Organic Diaper Balm.
For an everyday diaper cream that's going to help prevent diaper rash or calm mild rashes, you can't go wrong with an organic, vegan option like Earth Mama Baby Organic Diaper Balm. Our editors were impressed with the clean ingredients list, it's silky texture and the balm's hydrating and barrier-forming properties. Our parent testers were also fans of this balm: They felt good about using this product on their little one's tender skin, and they gave the balm good or very good ratings for quality and ease of use. Plus, all of our testers said they'd recommend Earth Mama Baby Organic Diaper Balm to other parents—a sound endorsement.
