Trying to conceive? You can take the guesswork out of when you’re ovulating with the Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test, which offers easy-to-interpret digital results. In addition to measuring luteinizing hormone (LH)—which spikes right before you ovulate—the kit also tests for a rise in estrogen, which begins to increase before an LH spike so that you have a couple of extra days warning before you ovulate. Since sperm can live in the fallopian tubes for five or six days, this gives you more opportunities to try to conceive.
The Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test consists of two parts: the disposable testing strips (the part you pee on) and the digital reader unit, which you insert the strips into, and which shows your results. Our editors found that it’s pretty easy to insert the test sticks in the holder and then hold them in a stream of urine, even though the absorbent tip itself is quite narrow. Testers were also impressed with the neat and tidy testing process. For anyone with a physical limitation that makes peeing on a narrow strip difficult, dipping the strip into a cup of collected urine is easy too, though you'll need to keep it submerged for 15 seconds compared to just three if testing mid-stream. The instructions are also concise, with good diagrams and simple wording, making the process of taking the test that much more simple.
The best part of the test, according to our parent testers and editors, is that the results are super easy to read and there's zero ambiguity thanks to the digital symbols: a circle for low fertility, a flashing smiley face for high fertility and constant smiley for peak fertility. None of testers had tried ovulation test kits before using the Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation test, yet none experienced contradictory or confusing results. They all said that the kit made it easy to determine if they were ovulating. Our editors also really liked that the test displays results for an extra two minutes after you eject the strip if you miss the initial eight-minute test result time window. This comes in handy if you’re the type who gets distracted by your smartphone (or family members) in the morning, which is the optimal time to take the test, though you can take it throughout the day once peak fertility is detected. On top of that, peak fertility displays for 48 hours, so there's no chance you'll miss that optimal window.
If you're looking for a top-notch ovulation kit, the Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test is a great one to try. Though it's on the high end of the price range for ovulation kits, extra features like testing for both LH and estrogen (which help widen the window of opportunity) and a ridiculously easy digital reading make it well worth the price, according to our parent testers. All of them strongly agreed that they would recommend this test kit to other families trying to conceive.
