Puerto Rico is easy-Caribbean for families. With direct flight from most major North American cities, English spoken everywhere, temperatures a constant 80-ish degrees all year round and modern infrastructure alongside all the innate natural beauty, it’s hard to beat this island for convenience and gorgeousness.

Massive re-building after Hurricane Maria plus a recent influx of crypto billionaire money (thanks to Puerto Rico’s favorable tax environment) has resulted in a major glow up for the whole island, and that’s great news for travelers looking for the best family resorts in Puerto Rico, now better than ever.

Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve, Rio Grande

This resort is not quite like the others. Located in Rio Grande, about 30 minutes outside San Juan situated on a privately owned peninsula covered in 1,000 acres of forest and jungle, this family resort is sprawling and low-key. It hosts the largest lagoon-style pool in the country, an incredibly calm beachfront (the waves break way offshore) and has majestic El Yunque rainforest as a backdrop. (Definitely do a day trip with a naturalist!)

One of the most unique aspects here though, due sheer size of this property, is that it never feels crowded. Start the day at one of the huge communal pools, move to the main beach to try some sea kayaking after lunch and then spend the rest of the afternoon swinging from a hammock on a secluded pocket of beach while the kids play in the warm water a foot away.

Be sure to pack your best toddler water shoes! Water sports and fun abound at this memorable family vacation property.

This ability to find a special, private spot on your own stretch of jaw-droppingly gorgeous beach is hard to replicate anywhere else on the island. When you’re ready to re-join civilization, you can hit a round on the 18-hole golf course, take part in the daily kids’ club activities or catch flying broccoli at the on-property hibachi restaurant.

San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

The Marriott Stellaris is a great hybrid spot perfect for families who want the best of both worlds–lazy Condado Beach days (steps from their guest rooms) and fun in the city of old San Juan. The huge pool features a twisty water slide and sprinkler section for littles. Staff runs daily kids crafting sessions and games on the pool deck.

When you’re ready to get out and explore, rent some e-bikes and tool around the old city. Pack loads of your best kids' sunscreen and bring the umbrella stroller. There's so much to see.

Other things we love at this palatial resort: perfectly manicured property, updated furnishings and an easy-to-access location Marriott loyalists can earn and spend points here, making it an excellent overall value.

Caribe Hilton

This resort has a more contemporary vibe than many of the other resorts on the island, and is one of the best family resorts in Puerto Rico for families with babies and toddlers. The resort offers in-room babysitting (hurray!) in addition to the fun playground and splash park on-site. Pack your best nursing swimsuit—this place is jam-packed with fun for younger babies, too.

Bigger kids love trying SNUBA here, which is a more accessible form of scuba diving that combines both snorkeling and scuba. The hotel runs a daily kids camp full of all kinds of crafts and animal- and ocean-focused activities, like sand castle building and koi-feeding for the littles.

The whole family is bound to love the sugar-sand beaches, soft waves and warm water. Plus, the family pictures you take are bound to be lifelong memories—the scenery is that beautiful.

El Conquistador Resort

One of the most iconic resorts in the entire Caribbean, not just Puerto Rico, the El Conquistador is home to some of the most spectacular and unique family amenities on the island and it easily makes our list of the best family resorts in Puerto Rico.

Set 300-feet above sea level, kids will never want to leave the Coqui water park, full of ridiculous water slides and lazy rivers. Entice them with the quick boat ride to the El Conquistador’s spectacular private Palomino Island, just for resort guests. Sip drinks in your lounge chair steps from the water while the kids have the best day of their lives playing in the calm turquoise surf.

Get ready to get lost in the lazy river with a cool beverage in your hand. We doubt you'll ever want to go back home.

Hyatt Residence Club Dorado

Beautiful, family-friendly suites, many with full kitchens mean that you can feed the kids quickly (and cheaply!) before heading out for the day. In-room washer-dryers take care of all manner of accidents. A big kid’s activities calendar, a kids pool, soccer, volleyball, games happening all day long, mid-day popsicles for all and a lovely private beach keeps everyone happy.

Choose from a variety of rooms and suites, then take advantage of the on-site amenities including a mouth-watering breakfast service, free internet access and even world-class tennis courts.

Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort

Fresh off a multi-million-dollar renovation, this beautiful property set on 500 acres includes 400 guestrooms with pristine beaches, two championship golf courses, two nature reserves and a great lineup for families. All those green and blue iguanas racing around the property?

Head to the activity pool every morning at 11 a.m. to feed them breakfast and learn about their ecosystem. On the weekends, head to the Tiki Hut at dusk for a delicious DIY s’more. Mom and Dad will love the resort’s signature nightly rum tastings. But don't worry—there are plenty of non-alcoholic drinks available too.

Hyatt Place San Juan

Just have a few nights in town? This Hyatt is perfect for short stays while you’re prepping to head out on a cruise ship or to one of the smaller surrounding islands. Kids will love the pirate boat water slide and splash park and everyone will love the easy access (the hotel offers free shuttles) to explore old San Juan.

This property is a good option for those who have already tried the popular La Concha Renaissance San Juan Resort and are looking for something different and especially kid-friendly. Better yet, you can use your Hyatt points to book this hotel, making it ideal for brand loyalists.

Fairmont El San Juan Hotel

This historic resort on Isla Verde Beach close to San Juan has an incredible and storied entertainment pedigree. In the 1960s, this is where big-time crooners like Frank Sinatra and Liza Minelli would come stay and perform.

The kids may not care about the resort’s incredible past, but they will definitely care about the huge lagoon-style pool, tennis and basketball courts (with lessons if you want ‘em), and the lovely two-mile beach. There's so much to do at this Puerto Rican family resort that you should definitely pack comfortable sandals for kids (and maybe a pair of sneakers).

We think it's the best budget-friendly alternative to the Copamarina Beach Resort & Spa if you already love that property. The water is warm, there is plenty to do, the food is delish and the only thing missing is you.
