Updated Mar 20, 2023Expecting a little one and desperate to know the gender of your new family member? Try this Chinese Gender Chart, also referred to as a Chinese Gender Predictor. It's easy to use: Just place one finger on the age you were when you conceived, and another finger on the month you conceived your baby. See where your fingers meet in the middle and you've got your answer—boy or girl!
There's a heck of a lot of history behind gender charts like this one. According to one site, Chinese Gender Predictors are more than 700 years old! But while people have apparently been using them for centuries, can they possibly be accurate?
Gender charts are obviously not scientific, and if you think about it, no matter what the prediction, there's a 50% chance it'll be right. What's more, a University of Michigan study investigated Chinese Gender Charts like this one, and the results were that they're no more accurate than flipping a coin.
They certainly don't recommend painting the nursery or having a gender reveal party based on the results. Still, many swear by this ancient predictor. And of course, just like all the other gender predictors out there, it's predicting your baby's sex—that is, what you'll see between their legs—not their gender.
But with all that skepticism aside, it's still fun to see what it says, right? So, let the fun begin! What does the Chinese Gender Predictor say your baby will be?
