15 Best Online Maternity Clothes Stores in Canada

Shopping for clothing isn’t always the easy and fun movie montage we want it to be. (Shocking that the likes of Pretty Woman led us astray!) In fact, plenty of us struggle with fitting rooms and finding the time to shop and there are often more misses than hits. Now, shopping for maternity clothes when you’re pregnant or recently postpartum? It’s likely not at the top of your list given a constantly changing body, and, did I mention that lack of time?

Don’t fret. There are more online maternity stores than ever that offer great and often affordable maternity clothes in Canada—and not just leggings and nursing tops (although there are plenty of those). We’re talking fun dresses, great maternity denim and comfortable nursing bras.

In many cases, online retailers like H&M and Old Navy have even more to offer and better variety than their in-store selection. And with better return policies and lower shipping costs than ever, it would be a big mistake (Big. Huge!) if you didn’t use your hopefully-not-too-swollen fingers to search online for a few maternity outfits to make yourself feel pretty.

So, you might just want to carve out a bit of time to get shopping—from the comfort of your home, of course. Here are our favourite sites to score lovely maternity clothes in Canada.

Best modern maternity clothes: Amazon

Amazon is one of the best places to shop for modern yet wearable pieces even when you aren’t expecting—so it makes sense that this one makes the list of our favourite online maternity stores, too. There are free returns and free shipping for Prime members, which makes this almost completely foolproof.

The best news? You won’t have to sacrifice your signature style—whatever it is—while growing a human. Plus, you can add any (or all) of your Canadian maternity clothes picks to your baby registries. Did we mention you can also score a free Amazon Baby Registry welcome box loaded with goodies while you're at it?

It's true. And if you don't have a Prime membership, here's how you can get one for $0—and a bunch of other free stuff from Amazon, too.

Best one-stop maternity clothing shop: Motherhood

If you prefer to keep your shopping to one bill (and one package in the mail), consider Motherhood, which offers all the usual suspects like bras, leggings and dresses—but also pajamas, jackets and plus-size maternity clothes. If efficiency is your focus, this is where you want to be shopping, and what new mom doesn’t love a time-saver?

Plus, even though everything ships from the States, import duties and taxes are calculated at checkout so there are no surprises when the package arrives.

Best affordable maternity denim: Old Navy

If you live in your jeans most days, then the addition of a bump might be cramping your style—at least when it comes to your favourite denim. So unless you want to swap jeans for leggings, picking up a pair of maternity denim is a must.

Old Navy carries affordable options in a variety of washes to keep your arsenal fully stocked for all occasions. Because most of us can barely go a week without wearing our favourite denim—never mind several months.

Best maternity basics: Gap

You already know and love Gap for its classic, wear-everywhere styles and truly excellent sales. But you’ve been missing out if you’re pregnant and not shopping the maternity section. There’s plenty of selection online, from cozy knits to swingy dresses, and you’ll also want to stock up on the basics: maternity T-shirts, tanks, button-downs and hoodies.

As an added bonus, you can print a prepaid return label through Gap’s online returns process—so if you don’t like it or it doesn’t fit, you can send it back without a second thought.

Best trendy maternity clothes: ASOS

Across the pond, ASOS boasts a mix of brands, though the maternity wear is largely a collection from the ASOS house brand itself. From voluminous statement pieces to prairie-girl dresses and (if you need them) wide-fit footwear, you’ve got tons of trendy options to suit your individual style.

While you may get hit with duty fees, ASOS offers Canadian shoppers a 15 percent discount to offset the additional costs of taxes and shipping.

So you have to go to a wedding when you’re pregnant? Your best bet is to head to Seraphine (a Kate Middleton favourite!) that will ensure you look—and more importantly, feel—like a million bucks at that black-tie event you have to attend. And if you’re the bridesmaid or even the bride? They have options for you too.

Best everyday maternity lingerie: Knix

Another Canadian brand with a knack for innovation (check out their sports bra and bodysuit for proof), Knix has a line of maternity lingerie pieces that are perfect for your changing body and make nursing a breeze—at least when it comes to your clothing.

Bonus points for this company's championing of nursing mamas, stretch marks and an all-around dose of maternity reality (in the best way possible) that make it a brand worth supporting—as they rather literally support you. BlissFit Leakproof Nursing Bra, $68, knix.ca

Best cute maternity clothes: Bellies in Bloom

This is another store that caters to the mama who doesn’t want to lose her style just because she has a belly to work around, with the added bonus of their pieces having life after labour. Think coverups to add style to a plain tank and roomy frocks like this T-shirt dress that should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe, pregnant or not. Extra points for shopping local with this Canadian company.

Fan favourite of pregnant women everywhere—including collaborator Jillian Harris—Smash + Tess size-inclusive rompers are the perfect loungewear piece, offering ease and simplicity, which you’ll likely continue wearing long after baby arrives. Oh, and did we mention how comfy it is?

Best maternity pants: Carry

Cute maternity dresses are sweet, but if they’re not your thing, you’ll find a wide variety of bottoms at Canadian maternity store Carry. From work-appropriate trousers to comfy joggers to summer shorts and cropped wide-leg options (plus jeans and leggings of course), there’s plenty of choices if you prefer pants. And, with a good selection of tops too, you’ll be able to put together the cutest outfits, easy.

Best size-diverse maternity clothes: PinkBlush Maternity

If you’re tall, petite or plus-size, finding clothes that fit on a normal day can be a bit of a hunt. But add a growing belly and it can be especially difficult. Popular U.S. maternity store PinkBlush ships to Canada and possibly offers the widest selection of styles in sizes for everybody. Be forewarned, though: shipping starts at CAD$7 and you’ll likely get hit with import taxes, duties and customs fees.

Best more-than-just-maternity option: The Bay

Canada’s oldest retailer has joined the 21st century, having made a substantial investment during the Pandemic to grow its e-commerce offerings. That includes a selection of maternity wear, like Adidas workout clothes, Modern Eternity coats and jackets, and Australian brand Cotton On.

While inventory is somewhat limited, it’s a great all-in-one shopping option if you, say, also need clothes for the rest of the family, a few things for the nursery and anything else for the home that your nesting urge draws you to.
