Review

Proof that good things do come in small packages, Yoplait Minigo is a rich, smooth and tangy yogurt that's enriched with vitamin D. Sold in multipacks of six, Yoplait Minigo's flavours include strawberry, strawberry-banana or pineapple-mango-banana, so there’s something for everyone. It's made without any artificial flavours, colours or sweeteners; instead, Yoplait uses vegetable juice and beta carotene to give Minigo its pastel hues. The majority of kid testers who tried this yogurt were fans, especially when it came to its smooth consistency (you won't find chunks in this yogurt).

“My daughter typically doesn't like the yogurt I buy. She absolutely loves this one. I'll buy it for her lunch or as a pre-activity snack before her evening dance classes.” —Penny, mom of two

Our lab tests started with a nutritional analysis by registered dietician Cara Rosenbloom. We sent her the nutritional information and ingredient list for each yogurt, without including any identifying information, so she could do a blind nutritional analysis. To make sure we were comparing apples to apples, we analyzed 100-gram servings of each yogurt and focused our attention on the quality of the ingredients, as well as the sugar, protein, calcium and vitamin D content. While the majority of single-serve yogurt cups come in this 100-gram size, Yoplait Minigo comes in 60-gram servings, with each containing six grams of sugars (equivalent to 1½ teaspoons) and three grams of protein. It also has 10 percent of the recommended daily calcium intake and eight percent of the recommended daily vitamin D intake.

Smaller than most single-serve yogurts that are available at the grocery store, Yoplait Minigo is clearly designed with little hands in mind. The containers felt sturdy in our hands and the lid came off with very little effort. The majority of parent testers told us their kids were able to open the yogurt container without help, making it a great solo snack. But while the containers are cute and colourful in a very kid-friendly way, they aren't recyclable.

Value is a key factor in earning the Today's Parent Approved seal, and at $0.31 per serving, this yogurt is one of the more budget-friendly options of the yogurts we tested. The majority our parent testers said this yogurt offers good to very good value, and we agree. While the serving size is smaller than many other yogurts, Yoplait Minigo packs in the same amount of protein and less sugar than many 100-gram yogurts.

FINAL WORD

The majority of parent testers felt Yoplait Minogo yogurt is worthy of the Today's Parent Approved seal and would recommend it to other parents. In our lab tests, we appreciated the smaller containers, and really enjoyed the subtle tang (ideal for kids), and the variety of flavours available. The majority of our parent testers told us they felt good about giving this yogurt to their kids—a sound endorsement.
