Our parent testers put Live Clean Shea Cocoa Butter Baby Lotion to work and found its convenient pump dispenser tidy and easy to use with one hand, which is essential when you’ve got a squirmy baby. Although the large bottle and a-little-goes-a-long-way formula offer great value, some testers found the container a bit tricky to store. It also does not lend itself well to travel: Our editors discovered there's no quick-lock mechanism on the pump, so you’ll have to push it down (wasting a little product) and use trial and error to secure it. The pump head is made of hard plastic that may break in transit, as one of our parent testers experienced. Our editors found the lotion itself smooth and milky in consistency, making it extremely easy to dispense and massage into skin. The formula soaked in quickly, and after six hours our editors noted their skin was still hydrated and soft.

The soothing effect of this lotion was immediately felt in our lab, as it instantly relieved dryness. Depending on the amount of lotion you use, it was noted an oily residue may remain on skin, but our editors found this was absorbed completely in less than an hour. However, if your family has more complicated skin dryness and irritation this formula may not be enough—one parent tester concluded this is a great lotion, but it didn’t offer her eczema prone family the hydration they needed, especially during winter. 

The commanding scents of cocoa butter and vanilla linger on the skin for some time after application, but our editors didn't find it overpowering; however, our testers were divided over whether they enjoyed or simply tolerated the smell. When it came to ingredients, all of our parent testers were pleased with this formula, which is 97 percent plant-derived, although one parent wished more of the ingredients were certified organic, not just the botanical extracts. All of our testers also felt good about putting Live Clean Shea Cocoa Butter Baby Lotion on their babies’ skin, and there were no resulting allergic reactions or sensitivities.
