To determine which body creams offered the highest quality and ease of use for the best value, we hit our Today’s Parent Approved lab and examined everything from the cream’s application to how easily the container opened and closed. To see how the creams performed day to day, we asked our trusted at-home testers to try them and report on how well they worked. Any cream that scored over 80 percent in our lab and gained at least 80 percent of testers' approval was awarded the Today’s Parent Approved seal. When all was said and done, the moisturizing power of CeraVe Moisturizing Cream was undeniable. All testers felt the quality and ease of use of this cream was good to very good and, based on the ingredients, all felt good sharing this cream with their children. While testers disagreed over the value of the product based on its price (some believed it was well above average, others believed it was somewhat below), they all said they would buy it and that the cream was somewhat to much better than others they had tried in the past.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is available in two different sizes: the 57-gram tube and the substantial 453-gram tub. During testing, we focused on the tub (go big or go home, right?). While all testers found the tub to be the right size for their family, some found its large opening, combined with the cream’s slightly runny consistency, to be a spilling hazard around always-on-the-move kids. The container takes two hands to open and close, and one tester told us she found it difficult to apply the cream to her son while simultaneously thwarting his efforts to dig into the tub himself. However, the benefit of a tub of cream versus a pump or tube is, should you scoop up more cream than you need (most testers found a little bit of CeraVe Moisturizing Cream goes a long way), it’s easy to scrape the excess back into the tub. Of course, the downside is that each time you dip your fingers in, bacteria can be introduced, so make sure you wash your hands before moisturizing.

During our lab tests, we applied a dime-sized amount of the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream to our skin and studied how it felt one minute, two minutes, and six hours later. Gelatinous and glossy in the tub, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream spreads thick like a typical cream, but without feeling heavy on the skin. In fact, the slightly runny consistency of the cream makes it super spreadable and we found it completely absorbed into our skin only two minutes after application (which is impressive compared to other creams that left our skin feeling oily all day long). After six hours of wearing CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, our skin felt noticeably softer, with no residue. Our experiences were backed up by our parent testers, each of whom reported similar results. They all told us their skin felt softer immediately after applying this cream, and only one tester found themselves reapplying the cream to specific dry spots throughout the day. For the others, one application a day was enough to keep dry skin at bay.

While CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is not labelled as a “fragrance-free” product, only fragrance-free or unscented products qualify for the Canadian Dermatology Association Skin Health seal. Not all fragrance-free products are truly scentless, but our testers found the cream's smell to be pleasantly neutral. We agree, as its subtle, fresh scent disappears moments after application. Testers with sensitive skin remarked on how soothing and non-irritating the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream was, and all of our testers told us that, overall, they were satisfied or very satisfied with the cream.
