Fresh air means one thing: it’s time to get the kids outside. Whether your kids are pushing their cute sandals to the limit by running around the yard over and over again or you’re setting up for backyard pizza night, warm weather evenings are made for outdoor activities.

For parents who want to level up and be seen as the GOAT in their homes–nay, the entire block—a trampoline is the accouterment your family needs. We found the best trampolines for kids to get them moving.

What to look for in the best trampoline for kids

The best trampoline for your family will of course depend on how many kids you have, who will be jumping, their ages, their weights and how much space you have. There are certain safety to considerations as well, says Cathy Pedrayes, safety and security expert. The first stop should be a call with your insurance company, as many won't write a homeowner's policy if there's a trampoline involved.

"Opt for a round trampoline versus a rectangular one, make sure the trampoline is enclosed with high safety nets and uses shock-absorbing safety pads that cover the springs, hook and frame entirely," she says.

Take a close look at the models you're considering when you buy a trampoline, as Pedrayes says that the newer designs tout better safety using composite rods instead of finger-pinching springs, but there aren't enough studies yet on whether this design actually reduces trampoline injury.

"Most of the injuries happen on the mat itself," she says. For extra safety measures, she suggests placing it on a softer surface like sand. Additionally, she says a family should come up with a set of rules, such as one jumper at a time, and that adults should always supervise children on trampolines.

FAQs

What is the best size trampoline for kids?

The size of the trampoline you need for your kids depends on your kids’ ages and how many you think you’ll have jumping at once. Trampolines that are 8 feet and under are good for smaller children to get exercise and trampolines that are 8 feet and over are good for older children to practice skills and tricks and have more space to jump.

The average trampoline size is 8 to 10 feet. The Little Tikes 3-Foot Trampoline is a good type of trampoline for toddler-age children who are looking for an introduction to jumping. It's important to also consider the trampoline's weight limit as well.

What is the best size trampoline for 2 kids?

If you have multiple jumpers, you can look for trampolines starting at 8 feet wide. The right size will depend on your children’s ages and weights when combined. If you have older or heavier children, you’ll want to also look at the bottom clearance to make sure that hard or heavy jumpers won’t bottom out and touch the ground when jumping.

Trampolines go up to 16 feet wide, which is ideal for large families, heavier jumpers, multiple jumpers and a combination of adult and kid jumpers. Jumping mats vary by the trampoline size and diameter as well.

What is the best size indoor trampoline?

The best size indoor trampoline is the one that fits in your space. Look for trampolines that clear your ceiling height while having enough room for the trampoline to bounce without bottoming.

You should have enough comfortable space around the exterior of the trampoline, even if you have a net around it. The average indoor trampoline is somewhere between 6 feet and 10 feet, but you can go bigger or smaller depending on your space requirements.
